PORT RICKABY 16th Sept 09 DUBLIN HORSE SALE - Friday 27th August 2010 Agent: BM Livestock, Eudunda Auctioneer: Budgie Schiller The South Australian Livestock Exchange at Dublin, normally reserved for selling Sheep, Cattle and Pigs on a weekly basis was the venue for this sale of Horses, Alpacas, saddles, harness, halters, rugs as well as feed grains and hay. Agent, Budgie Schiller, of BM Livestock, was to conduct a sale of surplus horse equipment and decided to expand the sale and open it up for further entries. The addition of some station horses from Kalabity station, provided good stock numbers, and variety which made for an attractive sale listing. The venue was ideal, with everything under cover and utilizing the handling facilities of the Cattle sale shed, as well as the office and catering facilities. All normal parking areas were filled with trucks and horse floats, with many people attending the site for the first time. The sale commenced at 11am, with 160 registered bidders. 25 horses were offered, ranging from stock horses, ponies and miniatures. 15 Alpacas , Suri & Hacuaya, wethers, pregnant females and females with cria at foot. Following the sale of livestock, sundry items of horse gear, hay and feed grain, continued to keep the crowd involved until the sale ended at around 3.30pm. On offer was a variety of farming plant, including modern Haymaking , Seeding, Harvesting and Crop spraying equipment as well as some Collectors vehicles and Antique and Collectors homewares. Starting at 10.30am numerous Sundries were sold displayed on 8x4x3 haybales within a huge hayshed providing shelter for the crowd from the intermittent light rain showers. At 12 o'clock a second selling team started on household items, also under cover, while the first team continued on with the huge array of farming sundry items. A collection of 7 Jaeschke field bins, all in good to excellent condition, were offered for sale with the winning bidder choosing the bin or bins they wanted. Prices ranged from $3,900 to $5,000. Rain became more persistent as the sale progressed onto major items of plant. Most items were only a few years old and offers were well short of expected reserve prices. The sale was completed by 4.30pm and several private negotiations were underway for the unsold items. The Clearing sale held for Simon and Donna Fay at Cockshell road Bow Hill on
Wednesday 14th April , was well attended and supported by approx 200 people
( 135 buyer registrations ).
The sale was not a big one on the scale of things , taking just 2 hours to
complete , but the condition and quality of the gear for auction was very
good . Buyers came from mainly the Murraylands and Mallee districts ,
seeking all types of farming plant , which the Vendors presented to their
best ability . The beautiful autumn weather experienced on the day , after a
decent opening rain of around 30mm just a few days prior , certainly helped
the picnic atmosphere .

A total of 250 registrations were taken on the day, with an estimated 400 people in attendance. The sale began at 11am with the last item sold at 3pm in the afternoon. River Estates, First National Agent & Auctioneer, Wayne Chadwick said, although there were some surprisingly high prices paid for older machinery and vehicles and sundries, the newer more expensive items were hard to shift. The general consensus amongst the punters on the day was, that the very poor grain season experienced in the Murraylands district last year (and several years prior), caused caution amongst the potential buyers on the day. There were over 700 Lots sold in 6 hours with spirited bidding on most items. Prices on a couple of items fell short of the mark and were passed in at auction, however, private negotiations were conducted by Landmark staff and in each case, a sale was effected while the auction was still in progress. The final item in the machinery line-up was the Case IH 2366 SP Axial flow Header w/ 30' batt reel open front comb, AFS yield monitor & Harvestaire air reel, Kelly comb trailer, and had done just 720 eng hrs. After a short introduction, a bid of $100,000 was thrown in from the Northern section of the crowd. In return a counter bid came from the Southern side. A battle continued from left to right and right to left in $10,000 bids in quick succession to $170,000, making Auctioneer Richard Earle look like the net court umpire at the Australian Tennis Open. Martin Stringer Auctioneers: Bronte Kenchington, WardleCo Kimba & Allan Pitchers A Slice of History A Blackstone single cylinder 17 horsepower stationary engine was the top sale item at a Clearing Sale at Crystal Brook. Incredibly, the huge engine was knocked down for $24,200 to a young enthusiast from Geelong, Victoria. Following the sale, the purchaser admitted he probably paid more than the current value and more than he expected he would have to, but, over time it will appreciate in value and he has the pleasure of owning a slice of history. Something only a true collector could appreciate, as was shown by the round of applause given by the envious crowd. The lifetime collection of old stationary engines and old tractors went under the hammer on Friday September 18th to wind up the Estate of Mr ME Talbot of Crystal Brook. Many locals said they knew he was a bit of a collector but they were astounded at the extent and quality of his collection. There were 17 tractors in original condition and over 60 engines, some quite rare, mainly used in agriculture by the early pioneers, beautifully restored and presented, such that many visitors travelled and previewed the engines the day before the sale. The sale was convened by WardleCo, Crystal Brook Real Estate Agent, Martin Stringer with auctioneers Bronte Kenchington of Kimba and Alan Pitchers of Murraytown. Organisers were very pleased to have 415 registered bidders, with a large contingent from interstate, with many making the trip from WA, Tasmania and Queensland specifically for the sale. In addition to the top price, the engines ranged in price with the majority in the $1,500 to $9,500 bracket and tractors sold up to $8,500. Amongst other items sold were antique farm gates up to $280, brass engine plates to $350 and a Blackstone blowtorch for $240. A collection of over 35 bottlejacks sold from $20 to $40 with the exception of a couple, at $100 and $180. A small amount of current farming equipment was also offered, an International 711 SP header sold for just $1,400 and Field bins sold to $4,200 for a Sherwell 280 bag bin in good condition. Well maintained farming plant and machinery, livestock and livestock handling equipment, haymaking, harvest and grain handling items and sundries sold by auction to the 423 registered bidders. A feature of the sale was the presentation of most items, laid out concisely for easy viewing and easy access. The vendors were rewarded for their efforts when on several occasions, competition forced prices up to nearly new price for some items.
